Reception
Subjects in Reception are taught through the six areas of learning laid out in the Foundation Stage. Teaching is based upon the fundamental recognition that every child is a competent learner, who longs to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships both in the home and at school. In Reception we provide an enabling environment which supports and extends the child development and learning. Children learn in different ways and at different rates and the small classes at Moorfield allow in depth teaching and pastoral care.
Girls learn to read, write and spell through a structured phonetic approach concentrating on developing word-building skills. Numeracy is taught through games, mental strategies and a wide variety of practical activities allowing for discovery and recognition of concepts. The children\'s knowledge and understanding of the world is continually enhanced and extended through visits from people in the community, trips out of school and topic based teaching. Art, music and drama are daily activities which develop the all round education we offer in the final year of the foundation stage.
News from the Reception Class!
Our topic for Foundation Stage during the Spring/Summer term is Growing.
- Not only will we be thinking about our own growth but also observing the growth of flowers, plants, insects and animals. To help us to do this we will follow the life cycle of butterflies and frogs, we will also be observing the growth of baby animals.
- We hope to get out and about observing and investigating the growth around us. Our growing topic extends to the outdoors where all six areas of learning are well planned and catered for. The girls will have lots of opportunities to plant pot and re-pot while having fun outside.
- Reception girls will end their busy week by going swimming on Friday mornings.
- I hope for lots of sunny days to enable us to have a happy, fun time, exploring the outdoors in this investigative topic of growth.
