Early Years' Year Groups

Nursery 1 is for boys and girls from two and a half. We recommend that a child starts with three morning sessions a week but we are very flexible to fit in with children’s and parents’ needs. When your child is ready to start at Moorfield, we discuss what is the best option to suit you.

Nursery 2 is for boys and girls who will be 4 years old during the school year. Although sessions are still flexible, most children attend four mornings a week, building up to four full days by the end of the summer term. This allows for a broadening of activities and builds stamina prior to entering Reception. We have the expectation that Moorfield’s Nursery children will progress onto Reception and go through school.

Reception boys and girls are taught on the top floor of the Early Years’ building. Sometimes children join us at this stage although most have already been in the Moorfield’s Nursery 1 and 2 and have developed good friendships within the group. Subjects are taught through the six areas of learning laid out in the Foundation Stage. They have specified drama, PE, French and Music lessons to supplement all six areas of learning as well. We provide an enabling environment which supports and extends the child’s development and learning. Boys and girls learn in different ways and at different rates and their individuality is very important to us.
